How do Shopify stores get into ChatGPT shopping?
Shopify stores reach ChatGPT shopping through Shopify's own catalog with no application, so the work is making product data complete and correct, not signing up. Separately, Google began automatically enabling eligible Shopify stores for agentic checkout in AI Mode and Gemini through UCP around 22 Sep 2026, and you can opt out in Shopify admin under Sales channels, Agentic. KailxLabs AI shopping readiness costs $4,995 one time and covers feeds, product facts, policy pages and a deliberate choice on each AI checkout.
Which AI channels include you?
A Shopify store is already wired into several AI shopping channels. Each has its own checkout and its own switch.
| Channel | How a Shopify store gets in | Checkout | Where you control it |
|---|---|---|---|
| ChatGPT shopping | Shopify's catalog. Shopify and Etsy sellers need no application; other stores apply to OpenAI and join a waitlist. | On your own store, opened inside ChatGPT. OpenAI's Instant Checkout is now a limited beta for select partners. | Shopify admin, Sales channels, Agentic |
| Google AI Mode and Gemini | Your Merchant Center feed and free listings. | Native checkout inside Google through UCP. Eligible Shopify stores were emailed around 22 Sep 2026 that their products are included automatically. | Opt out in Shopify admin, Sales channels, Agentic |
| Microsoft Copilot | Shopify's catalog. | Copilot Checkout in the US, with Shopify merchants enrolled after an opt out window. | Shopify admin |
| Meta Muse (US) | Shopify's catalog, by default. | Muse checks out with Link by Stripe. | Shopify admin, Sales channels, Agentic |

Why product data decides it
AI shopping answers have two layers: the text, which leans on reviews and editorial pages, and the product cards, which lean more and more on catalogs and feeds.
61.54% of ChatGPT shopping recommendations came from feed integrated merchants after a jump on 10 Jul 2026, up from 8.26%. By early September it was about 65%.

What should you fix first?
In this order. The first three are where most wrong AI answers about stores come from.
- Price, stock and variants. The same price and availability in your catalog, on the product page and in Merchant Center. Pricing is the fact AI gets wrong most often.
- Shipping and returns. Policy pages written in plain sentences AI can quote, and the same terms in your feeds.
- Dead products. Redirect or remove discontinued products and old bundles, so AI stops recommending them at old prices.
- Complete product facts. GTINs, materials, sizes, compatibility and the questions your support team hears, in visible text and in the feed.
- Crawler access. OAI-SearchBot, Googlebot and Bingbot allowed at robots.txt and CDN level, including any Cloudflare Block setting.
- Reviews and third party pages. Honest reviews in customers' own words, and a place in the comparisons and roundups AI cites for your category.

EcommerceChatGPT shopping questions, answered.
Do I need to apply to ChatGPT shopping as a Shopify store?
No. OpenAI's merchant page says Shopify and Etsy sellers need no application, because their catalogs are already connected. Stores on other platforms apply for a direct product feed.
Should I turn off Google agentic checkout?
Decide per product line. Leave it on where products are simple and returns are routine. Consider opting out for subscriptions, bundles, custom fit or technical products where a wrong answer causes returns.
Do ChatGPT shopping results only show stores with feeds?
An analyst claimed this in September 2026, and OpenAI has not confirmed it. What vendor data does show is that most ChatGPT shopping recommendations now draw on feed integrated merchants, so your catalog data matters most.
