Do ChatGPT plugins work in Codex?
Yes. OpenAI says ChatGPT and Codex share one universal plugin directory, so a published plugin can be installed in both. Plugins work in ChatGPT on the web, desktop and mobile and in Codex, and the Codex command line tool has its own plugin browser. The Codex IDE extension does not support plugins. Whether the two products surface the same plugin for the same task is not documented, and is one of the studies we have planned.

A plugin can hold parts meant for one product, so a plugin listed in both may not do the same things in both.

What we do not know
- We have not tested whether ChatGPT and Codex suggest or call the same plugin for the same task.
- Availability also depends on plan, workspace and region, which OpenAI describes only in general terms.
Nobody outside OpenAI knows the full recommendation method. We report what is documented, what we counted, and what is still unknown, and we keep the three apart.
